2015 Update from Pastor Henoc Lucien
Dear brothers and sisters in the Lord, my family and I would like to thank you for your prayers and your faithful support. The Lord has changed the lives of many people in Haiti and we are blessed to be part of that process.
I’d like to introduce you to Carl Andrew Etienne. Carl and his mother Ruth, have been members of our church since 1995. I remember praying for him when he was one month old, the moment of his dedication. Carl grew up in our church and took part in all the different activities, Sunday school, different choirs etc... At the age of 11, he was baptized. In 2002, when College Susan Schuenke opened its door, he became one of our dear students. This past May Carl graduated from CSS. As he feels led to the ministry, he just began his studies at a Bible School in Haiti. Each week, I receive text messages of encouragement from Carl. This one in particular has encouraged me: "You are my role model. If I were to choose how many hours in a day you have to preach, I would say 24. Thank you so much! I can't find a word better than “thank you.” Thank you for treating me like a son."
In spite of all the hindrances that we face in the ministry in Haiti, we rejoice in the fact that many are coming to Jesus and many lives are being transformed. This year alone, 112 have received baptism in the church in Cap Haitien, 16 in Berard and 9 in Grande Riviere du Nord. There are actually over 60 in a baptism class in Cap at the time of this writing.
In spite of all the political turmoil in the island of Haiti, regardless of the poverty and miseries, the name of the Lord is being lifted up.
Please continue to pray for our families' strength. The boys are growing up, Michael is in 8th grade and Matthew in 4th. Secondly pray for Haiti. The political situation is very confusing right now. Please pray for peace and stability. Thirdly pray for spiritual development and growth in the churches. For leaders to continue to develop out of the churches. Right now, the church in Cap has 6 men and women in training for ministry. Last but certainly not least for the financial challenges faced by VOHM.
We thank you again and share with you my best wishes for year end.
Pastor Henoc Lucien
2015 Update from Greg Schuenke, Presdient VOHM
Dear Friends and Supporters of VOHM I hope you are encouraged by Pastor Henoc’s ministry letter. VOHM is seeking to train up the next generation of Christians by providing a Christ-centered education at College Susan Schuenke. We are realizing the fruits of our labor as young Haitian men and woman leave our school with a Christian worldview and many reach back into their communities in service. The schools motto “Ad Astra," "Reach for the Stars," motivates students to work towards excellence as evidenced by their success. We are thankful our U-20 Boys soccer team won the Haiti National championship. Many are coming to saving faith through our churches and the school. I recently asked Pastor Henoc, "What is your greatest challenge going forward?" His reply was that we do not have the resources in trained workers and financial resource to accomplish all the Lord has set before us. VOHM was required to reduce the salary of both Pastor Henoc and Patrick Franklin (Haiti Business Manager) by 10% in 2014 due to our general funds shortfall. The political turmoil in Haiti and the devaluation of the Haitian currency (the Gourde) by almost 40% is taking its toll on the buying power of the Haitian people. It is becoming increasingly difficult to make ends meet. The VOHM budget for our general fund, which supports College Susan Schuenke, orphans, microenterprise and college scholarships, is $25,147 per month. This includes eliminating the 10% salary reduction from 2014.
Please consider VOHM in your year end gifts and in the coming year. We want to let you know that 94% of every dollar we receive goes directly to Haiti. We thank you for remembering “the least of these in Haiti". God bless you.
Greg Schuenke, President VOHM
Update on CSS Soccer Team Winning National Title
Among the many game and tournament wins the CSS soccer team had this year their biggest accomplishment was winning the National High School Soccer Title! In June they traveled to Port au Prince, Haiti where they won all of their matches. We are incredibly proud of this team and know that they worked so hard for this.
The Championship game was attended by the President of Haiti, Michel Martelly. President Martelly informed Pastor Henoc that the team will be issued individual Visas to travel to Florida to play a high school team there. For many, this will be a dream come true and will be taking place this month!
We want to thank all of our supporters for both your prayers and financial support in this endeavor. These opportunities would not be possible without your help.
Please keep this team in prayer as they are hoping to head to Florida at the end of December .
Dear friends and supporters of VOHM: Shortly after the devastating earthquake in Haiti in January 2010, Pastor Henoc and I traveled together to ravaged Port au Prince. As we turned onto the highway overlooking the devastated city I asked him, “Henoc, what will change this cycle of poverty and spiritual darkness in Haiti?” He answered,
The Evangelical Free Church in Grande Riviere celebrated their 11th anniversary this past Sunday. This was a very special day for members and leaders of this congregation. Different churches in different suburbs were invited. This day was special because they join together in the same fellowship to worship and thank God for multiple blessings during the year. Also, a special Thanks to Pastor Sidoine Lucien for the sermon. We bless the name of the Lord and give all the glory to Him!
Letter from Pastor Henoc:
Dear Friends, We are coming to the end of the year with a heart of thanksgiving for what the Lord is doing in our lives and the lives of the people around us in Haiti. His grace has been evident in the different aspects of the ministry as so many good things are happening.
Christmas at the Evangelical Free Church of Cap-Haitian is not only the celebration of our Savior's birth, it is also a moment of sharing, of love and of fraternal unity. It was a wonderful celebration of Christmas and more than 2000 people were attending church. Thanks to Pastor Emmanuel Cherubin, Guerline Lucien and Pastor Henoc Lucien. A special thanks to the congregation for bringing food and sharing with others and the food was good. It was a good example of love and sharing. The Evangelical Free Church of Cap-Haitian wants to wish a Merry Christmas to all his friends all over the world, especially his friends and sponsors of the USA. Merry Christmas to All! Blessings!
The Evangelical Free Church of Berard and the EFC Church of Grand Riviere both celebrated their anniversaries in December and January.

From Patrick Franklin: "We were really happy to have the UIH Team in our compound. During their visit last week, they worked in the dormitory. They helped us to lay tiles in both rooms and also on the porch. Thank you to all the team members as without you this work would not be possible." We would also like to extend a special thanks to the UIH Team on their work as they were originally planning to come down to help start building the walls at the University. However, due to some unfortunate legal circumstances we were unable to start the building and the team graciously agreed to still come and help VOHM where they needed it. We appreciate your flexibility and your understanding, and your willingness to serve!
